Supervision and Thesis Requirements
  • Each candidate is assigned a primary supervisor and, if necessary, a co-supervisor
  • Candidates must submit a thesis demonstrating original research, analytical rigor, and practical application
  • A viva voce examination is required to defend the thesis
Research Mode
  • Conventional Mode: On-campus supervision with regular meetings

Entry Requirements

Master's Degree (Level 7, MQF) in related fields

  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) in related fields as accepted by the University Senate; OR

Master's Degree (Level 7, MQF) in non-related fields

  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) in non-related fields as accepted by the University Senate, subject to having relevant working experience and a rigorous internal assessment; OR
  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) in non-related fields as accepted by the University Senate and without relevant working experience, subject to passing pre-requisite courses; OR

Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) recognised by the Malaysian Government

Admission Criteria through APEL.A

  • At least 35 years old in the year of application
  • Holds at least a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualifications (or higher qualifications such as a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma)
  • Have at least five (5) years of relevant working experience after completing the Bachelor’s Degree
  • Pass the APEL.A assessment at the Doctorate level

English Competency Requirement (International Student)

  • MUET: Band 4
  • IELTS: 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT: 60
  • Pearson English Test (PTE): 59
  • Cambridge English Qualification: 169
  • Any English qualifications equivalent to CEFR Mid B2 level

Note:
For Doctoral Degree by Research as stated in the Standards:

  • Master’s and Doctoral Degree:
    • There shall be no direct entry from Bachelor’s Degree level to Doctoral Degree level
    • Candidates with Bachelor’s Degree who are registered for Master’s Degree by Research programmes may apply to convert their candidacy to the Doctoral Degree programmes within ONE (1) year after Master’s Degree registration, subject to:
      • Having shown competency and capability in conducting research at Doctoral Degree level;
      • Rigorous internal evaluation by the University; and
      • Approval by the University Senate.
