About This Course

The industry related PhD offers an alternative path for industry professionals who wish to pursue a PhD without leaving their current position. The purpose of this programme is to facilitate the exchange of information between academics and industry professionals to develop highly qualified professionals. In return, the university has access to new knowledge and innovation provided by private companies.

Supervision and Thesis Requirements
  • Each candidate is assigned a primary supervisor and, a co-supervisor
  • Candidates must submit a thesis demonstrating original research, analytical depth, and practical application
  • A viva voce examination is required to defend the thesis

Entry Requirements

Master's Degree (Level 7, MQF) in a related field

  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) in a related field as accepted by the University Senate; OR

Master's Degree (Level 7, MQF) in a non-related field

  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) in a non-related field as accepted by the University Senate, with relevant working experience, subject to a rigorous internal assessment; OR
  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) in a non-related field as accepted by the University Senate and without relevant working experience, subject to completion of pre-requisite courses; OR

Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) recognised by the Malaysian Government.

Admission Criteria through APEL.A

  • At least 35 years old in the year of application
  • Holds at least a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualifications (or higher qualifications such as a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma)
  • Have at least five (5) years of relevant working experience after completing the Bachelor’s Degree
  • Pass the APEL.A assessment at the Doctorate level (Level 8, MQF)

English Competency Requirements (International Student)

  • MUET: Band 4
  • IELTS: 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT: 60
  • Pearson English Test (PTE): 59
  • Cambridge English Qualification: 169
  • Any English qualifications equivalent to CEFR Mid B2 level.
