About the Faculty

The Faculty offers a comprehensive and dynamic Health Science programmes to meet the needs of the country’s health sector. The programmes are all approved by MOHE and obtained Full Accreditation from the Malaysian Qualification Agency.

Professor Dr. Azizah Suliman

Professor Dr. Azizah is a respected scholar and academician with an extensive experience in research, teaching, supervision, consultation and managing at higher education institutions. She was born in Kg Batu, Kuala Lumpur and received her early education at Sek. Men. Perempuan Jalan Ipoh, KL and Victoria Institution, KL. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Southern Illinois University, USA in 1986. Her interest in Artificial Intelligence began when she received her Master of Computer Science from Universiti Malaya in 1990, with a thesis entitled “HiP: An Expert System in the Detection of Hypertension in Pregnancy”. Her Doctor of Philosophy in Artificial Intelligence from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2011 further pursued her interest with a thesis entitled “A Hybrid Method for Character Recognition using HMM and Fuzzy Logic”. Currently her research interests includes AI, Machine Learning, Parallel and GPU Programming and Embedded Systems.

Her academic journey started in Universiti Putra Malaysia where she began as a tutor and later received necessary qualifications to be promoted as a lecturer in 1990. In 2001 she joined Universiti Tenaga Nasional as a Senior Lecturer and subsequently promoted as an Associate Professor. In UNITEN she was entrusted to manage a department as a Head of Department and then later to help manage the College of Computing and Informatics as a Deputy Dean of Academics and Research until retirement.

She has published over 50 research papers in indexed journals and proceedings and lead several institutional and national grants like EScience and LRGS (co lead), in Embedded Systems and Machine Learning. She secured a project with TNB under Uniten R&D (URND) and managed to file and be granted with a Certificate for a Utility Innovation in 2025 titled “A Method and a System for Detecting Electricity Theft”.

Over the years, in training and consultation, she has conducted workshops in Python Programming, Fortran Programming, IOT using Raspberry Pi, and more recently in Data Science and Machine Learning for internal and external participants. She was appointed as a reviewer for SIRIM’s project under Japan ASEAN Aid titled “Development of Self Reliant Toolkit for ISO Training Programmes and Quality Cost" and developed a teaching module "Pengaturcaraan C Melalui Robotik", for SIRIM Berhad.

As AMU’s Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology (FOST), Prof. Dr. Azizah Suliman is committed to lead, guide, and work together with the faculty to start a new chapter of growth and expansion.
